Create a Lifetime of Memories – Take Your Family Camping

Most of my best memories of our family camping trips were of time spent sitting around the nightly campfire. In fact, as soon as we’d pull into the campground, dad would start setting up the family camping tents and I’d head into the forest to find wood for the fire. I’d always collect so much firewood that there would be no chance of burning it all but the “hunt” was tons of fun for me. Then it would be my job to start the campfire. I can remember bragging to my friends that I could build a campfire with only one match and no newspaper or charcoal lighter. Today it’s probably easier to carry your firewood with you but sitting around the fire is still a lot of fun.

Sitting by the campfire is one of those things that bring people together. Start a fire and there’s a good chance that the people in the camper next to you will come by with some marshmallows to toast. My sister used to roast hers slowly and get them brown on the outside and soft and gooey on the inside and she always cooked them on one of our bbq tools. I always put mine on the tip of a stick and set them on fire until they were burnt to a crisp. We met a family on a camping trip in Canada in the late sixties and mom and dad are still close friends with them today.

Your kids will love sitting around the campfire too. Once the marshmallows get toasting and you bring out the hot chocolate, somebody may start telling stories. I used to like the ones that started out sounding like they were going to be scary but then the punch lines made them funny. You will also sing silly songs and tell jokes that only the kids find funny. What your kids will love the most is that the whole family will be together and the they will have mom and dad all to themselves.

The more I remember those great vacations, the more I suggest that you pack your camping gear; and picnic accessories and take your family camping. You’ll have a fantastic vacation and create memories that will last a lifetime. I know mine have.
