Actors and tale are oftbeat, although the avant-garde lighting outcomes and camcorder movements by cinematographer Johanna Heer become irritating. Cast includes Marianne Sagebrecht and Eisi Swig. Heartburn: Nora Ephron adjusted her own most popular (and autobiographical) novel in regards to an elderly couple whose matrimony appears just fine till she sees he’s been cheating when she’s pregnant! Lightweight, shallow tale is supercharged by 2 charismatic megastars, which make it a must see. Cast includes Meryl Streep, Jack Nicholson: Jeff Daniels, Maureen Stapleton, Stockard Channing, Richard Masur, Catherine O’Hara, Steven Hill, Milos Forman, Karen Akers, Anna Maria Horsford, Mercedes Ruehl, Joanna Gleason, Yakov Smimoff, Kevin Spacey, and Natasha Lyonne. A Face in the Rain: At times anxious melodrama with Calhoun as a U.S. espionage agent being concealed in Italy by a local anti-Nazi who�s the mistress of a German officer. This is a WW2 drama. Cast includes Rory Calhoun, Marina Berti, Niall MacGinnis, and Massimo Giuliani. (91 minutes, 1963)
Aguirre the Wrath of God: Commanding, spellbinding story of misled conquistador who leads a group of gentlemen away from Pizarro’s 1560 South American journey looking for 7 cities of gold. Dreamlike film was shot on location in remote Amazon forests; Kinski is perfect as the crazy Aguirre. Cast includes Klaus Kinski, Ruy Guerra, Del Negro, Helena Rojo, Cecilia Rivera, and Peter Berling. (94 minutes, 1972)
The Hi-Lo Country: Tale of 2 men in post-WW2 New Mexico who fall in love with the identical lady and she’s already married to someone else. A tribute to the dude way of life and the delights of real kinship, this film has so much going for it (containing Harrelson’s wonderful behavior as a hell-raiser and Oliver Stapleton’s cinematography) that it’s a pity it doesn’t hit the bull’s-eye and Arquette is so boring. Cast includes Woody Harrelson, Billy Crudup, Patricia Arquette, Sam Elliott, Cole Hauser, Penelope Cruz, Darren Caves, Jacob Vargas, James Gammon, Lane Smith, and Katy Jurado. (114 minutes, 1998)
The Red Violin: Multi-episode film follows the destiny of a hexed violin from 17th-century Italy to 18th century Vienna, 19th century England, 20th-century China and present day Montreal. The tales are mainly downbeat and or aggravating, and the finish up part with appraiser Jackson is difficult to swallow. Colorful locales and enthralling premises sustain limited interest all the way through. Cast includes Carlo Cecchi, Irene Grazioli, Jean-Luc Bideau, Jason Flemyng, Greta Scacchi, Sylvia Chang, Samuel L. Jackson, Colm Feore, Monique Mercure, Don McKellar, and Sandra Oh. Doughboys: This is one of Buster’s poorest films, a tiresome Army comedy. Rude sergeant Brophy overrides the few laughs. Cast includes Buster Keaton, Sally Eilers, Cliff Edwards, and Edward Brophy. (79 minutes, 1930)
