Hairspray the musical is set in Baltimore, Maryland the year is 1962. Our hero in the musical is is a young overweight girl named Tracy. Tracy has always dreamed of becoming a big star, if and when you attend this musical, make sure you have a front row seat, if you don’t you will want to be sure to bring your opera glasses, so as not to miss a moment of this fast-paced play.

Tracy hears on the television that The Corny Collins Show is having a dance contest and she excitedly wants to enter the contest. Her overweight mother frowns at the idea. (You may have heard actor John Travolta played this part in the movie Hairspray.) Tracy’s mother is just trying to protect her dear daughter out of love as she does not want people to make her daughter a joke for being overweight. Plus, her mother thinks the show plays racist music.

With the good grace of her father Wilbur, Tracy finally gets permission to go on to the dance audition. During the audition, she meets with, and falls in love with a boy name Link Larkin. As the author I recommend, preparing for this moment, by making sure that you are using your opera glasses! You will surely want to catch the expression on Tracy’s face as you see her fall hopelessly in love with Link. At this point, Tracy begins a beautiful song about love, and her dream of being with Link. Tracy is rudely awakened from her daydream, only to find out that due to her weight, she did not make the cut for the dance competition. Just as her mother suspected would happen from the beginning.

Broken hearted Tracy returns to school, but her troubles do not end there, almost immediately Tracy if given detention, due to her hair being so large, that those who sat behind her, could not even see past her! For this reason, the musical Hairspray, is given its name.

As Tracy sits in detention feeling sorry for herself she meets a nice black boy named Seaweed, Seaweed is a great dancer, and teaches Tracy some amazing dance moves. A dance party is scheduled for the school, and Tracy decides to attend despite her recent run of very bad luck. This time Tracy’s luck is about to change, attending the dance, is the owner of the Corny Collins Show, the show that is to feature the dance contest, as he watches the dancers he notices the moves that Tracy puts on, he falls in love with her dance style, and chooses Tracy to dance on his show. Tracy is ecstatic to find out that at long last she will be on the show! Make sure you are using your opera glasses at this point.

Tracy gets more good news, Link Larkin is to sing a romantic song to her. Another character, Amber, who is the snobby pretty girl is quite upset. At school Amber does some mean things to Tracy which includes whacking her head with a volleyball and knocking Tracy out.

As the play continues, Tracy and others are invited to the record show that Seaweed’s mother owns, A party is planned for all that attend. All during this time, Tracy becomes close friends with Seaweed, and is enraged to find out that blacks are only allowed to attend the Corny Collins T.V. Show once a month on “Negro Day” Tracy begins to fight for blacks rights. To find out how Hairspray ends, you will have to attend, but it will be a wonderful experience for all who go.

The Phantom of the Opera takes place in Paris in the nineteenth century. Two new opera house owners take over a theater that is thought to be haunted by a phantom. The phantom is said to be a man named Erik, a construction worker who helped build the hall. In reality Erik is not a ghost but is someone who was severely disfigured from birth and wears a mask on half of face to conceal his disfigured face.

As time goes on the Phantom come to one of the performers; Christine, and tells her that her father who has passed away, has sent him from heaven to give her voice lessons. The Phantom begins to train her through the walls of her dressing room, as these take place over the course of time Christine becomes a remarkable singer, and takes the leading role in the opera.

Christine, one night, faints during a performance. A daring man in the audience comes to her rescue. We come to find out that this daring man is Raoul, a childhood friend of Christine. We find also that Raoul has fallen in love with her. Raoul begins to attend Christine’s performances regularly, showering her with gifts.

Jealousy of Christine and Raoul begins to consume Erik, for the Phantom has also fallen in love with Christine. Erik can no longer restrain himself from meeting in person with Christine. When he finally appears in her dressing room, he does so wearing the famed mask. He then takes Christine deep within the catacombs of the opera house to his secret home.

Christine finds out that The Phantom does not plan to release her. At this point she becomes very fearful and also very angry. Erik then makes a promise to her that she will be let go after staying for five more days. At this point he takes Christine on a tour of his underground home, which features many strange things. Be sure to be using your opera glasses at this point of the performance, for this part can truly not be forgotten.

Christine cannot wait to see just who Erik is and why the mask is on his face. She grabs his mask and quickly takes it off during a remarkable duet. Grab your theatre glasses so you may get a glimpse of Erik’s face. The lights may be too dimmed but it is worth a try! More chills will be sent down your spine with the screaming from the horrible site revealed. This deception angers Erik who now thinks he will not let Christine leave his spooky home. Erik so wants Christine to love him and you can feel his passion.

As the storyline carries on you will continue to be mesmerized by the music and wonderful performance that is given. But to see how The Phantom of the Opera ends, you will have to see it for yourself. This is one performance that you will want to see again and again. “The Andy Griffith Show” was a 1960’s television show featured Andy, a sheriff in the small town of “Mayberry”. The show revolved around Andy, his friends and family, and the great fun times that they all had together. While North Carolina has marched on in time…Ocracoke still maintains a bit of it’s “Ode to Days Gone By”. Why is this? One of the major reasons could be the fact that it’s a lot harder to get to Ocracoke. No bridges or tunnels or roads go there directly. You will either need to have a private plane or boat, or be a good swimmer (we’re kidding…), or utilize one of the ferries that travel back and forth on a daily basis.

Even if you hate shopping on the mainland, we think you will like it in Ocracoke. The shops are all small and quaint, and just browsing in them will bring back thoughts of “Mayberry”. If you need to buy groceries there are only two main variety stores. They do have a post office to mail letters and postcards back to the mainland. One shop is dedicated to “just kites”, a wonderful way to pass time on the island. The tree-lined roadway that covers the shops in the main shopping area is another feature that we just love.

Ocracoke has a historic lighthouse that was built by Noah Porter (a builder from Massachusetts) in 1832. It’s known as the oldest continuously operating lighthouse in North Carolina, as well as the second oldest in the US. It is 75 feet (23 m) tall, and it’s diameter varies from 25 feet (8 m) at the base to 12 feet (3.7 m) at the top. The light from this lighthouse can be seen 14 miles out into the Atlantic. A United States National Park Ranger is on duty during the summer months. When a ranger is on duty you can enter the base of the lighthouse…but no climbing is permitted.

In conclusion, what do we think of Ocracoke? We absolutely love it…love it. Even if you don’t enjoy going to the beach, this is the perfect place for your next family beach vacation, or family beach vacations… If you often think back to “days of old” when life was simpler and more carefree…definitely check out Ocracoke. The Hi-Lo Country: Tale of 2 men in post-WW2 New Mexico who fall in love with the identical lady and she’s already married to someone else. A tribute to the dude way of life and the delights of real kinship, this film has so much going for it (containing Harrelson’s wonderful behavior as a hell-raiser and Oliver Stapleton’s cinematography) that it’s a pity it doesn’t hit the bull’s-eye and Arquette is so boring. The Red Violin: Multi-episode film follows the destiny of a hexed violin from 17th-century Italy to 18th century Vienna, 19th century England, 20th-century China and present day Montreal. The tales are mainly downbeat and or aggravating, and the finish up part with appraiser Jackson is difficult to swallow. Colorful locales and enthralling premises sustain limited interest all the way through. Cast includes Carlo Cecchi, Irene Grazioli, Jean-Luc Bideau, Jason Flemyng, Greta Scacchi, Sylvia Chang, Samuel L.
