Does Cuba get enough recognition for it’s Holidays, or just it’s Cigars

Should Cuba just be world known for it’s cigars?

The Cohiba is one of the world’s most expensive cigar brands and has many different types, with prices ranging from 30 pounds to 250 pounds per cigar. Is Cuba only known for its Cigars, the Havana is known everywhere but is that all we know.

However Cuba isn’t just about the cigars that they make this quaint yet booming island has many other cultural gifts to offer us. The history of this Island is amazing with famous figures ranging from politician Fidel Castro to actress Eva Mendez. Castillo de Farnes is the place where Che Guevara and Fidel Castro toasted the completion of the revolution, but events like this are not well known.

Cuba holidays offer us a new niche of tourism. We must remember though that Cuba does make great Cigars and although we are accentuating this point, they do allow us to try and roll our own cigars. The tongue twisting “Real Fabrica de Tabaco’s Partuga’s in Havana supplies you with what you need to make your own cigar and shows you how to roll it. Cuba is now becoming one of the main places to go on holiday because the tourism industry is booming, this makes tourism one of Cuba’s biggest money spinners.

The Cuba hotels are getting more and more modern every day. Although they do have some national treasures, the Nacional Hotel has starred in many gangster films with Frank Sinatra and is one of the oldest hotels on the island. With its 5 stars it is clear that this Hotel is still as well presented as it was when it was first built, with many famous figures staying in it in the past such as Winston Churchill and Frank Sinatra.

Now that they have ferries from Cuba to Jamaica you can enjoy weekend Jamaica holidays as well. Although Cuba is famous for its Cigars it also provides us with a wide range of other cultural goodies and a history to inspire us all.

3 holidays i recommend to you this year

Here are 3 holidays that I think you should consider this year:

Jamaica – What a fantastic place, first of all it’s in the Caribbean, which means we’re off to a good start. Sandy beaches and sun all of the time, it’s guaranteed to keep you smiling. Doplhins, swimming with dolphins is one of the greatest things you can do, and in this environment it feels like you out with the wildlife. However if this seems to tiring then you can always go for a float with the Sting rays. If these aren’t your cup of tea and you would like to go and learn about the island or its famous figures, you should definitely visit the Bob Marley museum. Try Jamaica holidays, they really are special.

Cuba – This place is another destination in the Caribbean where you can enjoy the sun. Cuba is a great island, allowing you to relax but enjoy yourself as well, there is masses to do so hear are some ideas. First off, the cigar making factories, you can choose from several and they will teach you to make a cigar, it doesn’t matter if you don’t smoke its great fun anyway. Varadero is another place in Cuba you must visit, it has a beautiful long beach and provides all kinds of hotels, bars and restaurants. Cuba has had many famous people visit and has produced many stars as well. Even the hotels are famous, the Nacional hotel has been in films and is truly beautiful, it has accommodated many famous figures. Cuba holidays are absolutely booming don’t miss out.

Dubai – Well I think that you all know how popular this place is but I will help shed a bit more light. You head here to feel like a king or queen. The difference between Dubai and home is that you can feel like a millionaire in Dubai, the people are friendly and the markets are welcoming. Shopping in the Market place is a must, you can grab some bargains and haggle to your hearts content, be sure to check that the gold market is doing well though as this will affect prices. The hot air balloon rides are amazing, you get the most spectacular view of Dubai and the deserts that engulf it. You should try going on holidays to Dubai, they are so uplifting.

Is flying really the worst contributor to climate change?

The government have announced plans to increase the tax on air travel to over double the current percentage, in a bid to cut carbon emissions. This new ‘green tax’ will apply to long haul flights and will supposedly be spent on green issues and reducing global warming. It sounds like a good plan, even if it does mean we’d have to pay more to fly, after all aviation emissions are a huge factor in climate change and one of the main areas for concern, right?

Well, no actually they’re not. I’m not trying to say that aircraft emissions are a myth or that they don’t contribute, because they’re not and they do. But looking at the figures it’s clear that air travel counts for only two per cent of our total CO2 emissions. Yes, there is certainly room for improvement, and any way to reduce carbon emissions can only be a good thing, but is doubling the tax on air passengers who want to see the world or take tropical or Caribbean holidays really the way to go about it?

I suppose the theory is that luxury holidays are not a necessity in life and those who can afford them can afford to pay extra to help alleviate the environmental cost, but the bottom line is this scheme is not reducing global warming at all, it’s just charging people more for it. An alternative scheme, proposed by people who work in the travel industry, suggested that instead of taxing passengers for flying the government could instead tax the airlines for any seats left empty. Considering that on average 1/3 of all seats in the sky remain empty, this plan could have actually made a difference by encouraging airlines to run less flights and ensure that planes were always as full as possible.

Unsurprisingly this proposal fell on deaf ears. Maybe it was realised that although it could cause a serious reduction in carbon emissions, there was far less scope for making money out of it than taxing passengers more. As far as saving the planet goes, although airline pollution could and should be reduced, before this can be done people’s attitudes need to change. And in my experience there is no better way to change the way you feel about the planet than to see it – whether you go exploring in the rainforest, backpacking in Australia or just chilling out on a beach in Jamaica, holidays open people’s eyes to the world and let you see what’s out there worth saving.
