What are the New Travel Laws regarding Passports for Canadians Traveling to the US?
Since the tragic events of 911, there have been many changes to the laws when traveling from Canada to the United States. These changes are designed to enhance security between the two countries. When a Canadian travels to the US, they should be aware of the new travel laws regarding Passports.
The Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) is one law that Canadians should learn about. It is a US law mandating that all travelers, including US and Canadian residents, provide a passport or other approved secure document when entering the United States. This law applies to all travelers, including children.
Canadians who travel by plane to and from the United States must provide one of the following documents: a passport or a NEXUS card to be presented at all U.S. airports when coming back to Canada. For example, if a Canadian travels to the US by vehicle, but returns to Canada by flights, a NEXUS card will be required before they can board the flight.
When Canadians enter the United States by land or water, they are mandated to provide ONE of the following documents: a passport; a NEXUS card, a Free and Secure Trade (FAST) card, an enhanced driver’s license (EDL) or enhanced identification card, or a Secure Certificate of Indian Status.
For Canadians under the age of 15, they must provide verification of their Canadian citizenship, such as an original or a photocopy of a birth certificate, or an original citizenship card. Canadian citizens 18 years of age or under who are traveling with an organized group may provide proof of Canadian citizenship only. This makes it easier to make school trips to the US.
There have been some concerns about meeting all of the requirements so the US has provided some flexibility on the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) law. However, the Canadian Government warns that the extent of this flexibility is the decision of the U.S. officials.
The Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative was created after the implementation of the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 (IRTPA). This act mandated that every traveler have a passport or other approved document that proves one’s identity when coming into the United States. The purpose was to help the Department of Homeland Security identify a traveler quickly.
As of August 15, 2007, the Canadian Government has implemented measures to make renewing one’s passport easier. The Simplified Passport Renewal Program permits Canadians who meet specific eligibility criteria to renew their passport using a less complicated form and without submitting such documents as proof of citizenship, supplementary identification, and a guarantor declaration. Under the renewal program, one will just need to submit the small form along with two new photos, the application fee, and their last passport. As well, Passport Canada enacted a simpler guarantor policy, which allows most adult Canadian passport holders to act as guarantors for first time applicants.
In order to avoid any travel disruptions, before Canadians travel, they should be aware of the entry requirements for the United States.

Socotra Island – Isolated Natural Treasure
In the Indian Ocean off the Horn of Africa lies a small archipelago of four islands and islets. Although closer to Africa, the islands are part of the Republic of Yemen. The archipelago consists of the main island of Socotra and three smaller islands known collectively as The Brothers Abd al Kuri, Samhah and Darsa.
The islands were separated from the mainland so long ago that much of their flora and fauna has evolved here, making the islands of great ecological importance. Due to their geographical isolation, the islanders have also had little outside influence, and arriving on Socotra is like stepping back in time.
The culture on Socotra is very different from the ways of the modern world. Until the airport was built in 1999, the only way to get here was by boat, and during the monsoon season the strong winds and high seas made the island inaccessible.
Most Socotris still live without electricity, running water or a paved road. Until 1990 the island still had a barter economy, and even today most people in the mountainous areas still live in caves. The main island is a little over 130 km (80 mi) long and around 35 km (21 mi) wide.
Socotra is a place of contrasting landscapes, with the turquoise lagoon at Qalansiya and the white sand dunes at Ras Moroi, the flower-filled alpine meadows of the Haghier Mountains and the desolate cave-riddled plateau of the interior. Rising to over 1,500 m (4,921 ft), the Haghier Mountains loom over Hadibo, the island’s capital, and dominate the skyline.
The red granite peaks are peppered with silver lichens which grow thickly on the bare rocks above the tree line. Streams bubble down from the misty heights, teeming with lively fish and freshwater crabs. Limestone plateau spread east and west, providing alkaline soils for the iconic Dragon’s Blood Tree for which the islands are famous. The locals collect the blood-red resin, known as cinnabar, from the tree by making incisions in the bark.
In the ancient world, it was used to enhance the colour of precious stones and glass, and as a pigment in paints, and had various medicinal qualities. The long isolation of the Socotra archipelago and its fierce heat and drought have combined to create a unique endemic flora and fauna.
There are no fewer than 300 plant species, 113 insect species, 24 reptile species and six bird species that can be found nowhere else in the world. Botanists rank the flora of Socotra among the ten most endangered island flora in the world, and steps are being taken by the government to protect this unique and spectacular habitat.

The Cayman Islands of the Western Caribbean
South of Cuba in the heat of the western Caribbean, the three Cayman Islands are the visible summits of the Cayman Ridge, an underwater mountain range which drops suddenly into the 7,100 m (22,000 ft) Cayman Trench, separating them from Jamaica.
Grand Cayman is by far the largest. The Sister Islands of Cayman Brac and Little Cayman are mostly a wilderness of fruit trees, orchids and cacti where tranquility and an authentic West Indian culture are the main attractions. Just 145 km (90 ml) to the southwest, Grand Cayman at first resembles nothing so much as a transplanted American urban nightmare.
The capital, George Town, and Seven Mile Beach, its renowned local playground, are full of condos, resorts, satellite dishes and mini-malls. The streets teem with bankers and the faceless suits of the institutions that have made it the world’s fifth largest financial centre.
Five days a week, cruise liners decant up to 22,000 tourists, joining the millions each year whose holidays have given the Cayman Islands the eighth highest GDP per capita in the world.
George Town is so busy, loud, and determinedly up for it, you feel the privateers and pirates of former times have merely put on modern dress in their eagerness to empty your wallet.
In the small towns and villages outside George Town, the atmosphere changes immediately. Grand Cayman’s true self is African-European, deeply Christian, conservative and church-going (there are lots of churches).
The locals are openly friendly and well-mannered, laughing and hospitable. Isolated by the central mangrove wetlands -3,440 hectares (8,500 acres) of lush forests, emerald green parrots and bright orange frogfish, the mainspring of the complex ecology that maintains both the turtle grass and shrimp mounds of North Sound Marine Reserve, Rum Point typifies Grand Cayman at its best.

Airport Security – What Travelers Need to Know
Since the tragic events of 9/11, Airports have taken great strides to ensure the safety of their measures. Many new security measures have been implemented that travelers should be aware of before going to the airport.
The following is a list of important security essentials that travelers should know when they go to the airport:
1. Because of the security measures that have been implemented, one may expect longer security check lines so checking in for the flight may take longer than in the past. Airports recommend that you arrive at the airport about two hours before your scheduled flight.
2. The first checkpoint is registering for your plane seat. You will have to show your boarding pass and a form of identification such as a drivers license or a government issued identification card.
3. When you arrive at the security check point, you will be required to put your carry-on bag through the scanner. There will be a bin for placing your coat that will be scanned before you walk through the metal detector. Before going through the metal detector, you will have to remove any items you are wearing and put them in a bin for scanning. Some airports now have — shoe sniff — devices that analyze your shoes for the presence of explosive materials. If the scanner picks up something unusual, you and your bag will be searched. The security agent may pass a wand with a removable filter that will test for explosive residue.
4. X-ray body imaging machines at airports, called backscatter devices, are being installed in up to 30 airports. The machines are intended to replace the physical pat-down some passengers receive.
5. In August, 2006, rules were implemented to allow passengers on US and European flights to carry only 3 ounces/100 ml of liquids or gels through airport security in a clear Ziploc type plastic bag. Beverages purchased in the airport after clearing security are allowed. You are permitted to bring more than 100ml of baby formula, baby food, milk, or juice prescription and essential non-prescription medicines. You must declare these items at the security check desk.
6. Items that are considered weapons are banned such as knives, tools, pepper spray, and scissors. As well, loose batteries are not allowed on the flight. Lithium ion batteries in cell phones and laptops are allowed. You may not pack loose lithium batteries in your checked baggage, but spare lithium batteries are permitted in carry-on baggage. It is important to check with the airport if you have a concern about what items you are bringing.
7. Other security areas being enhanced include random screening of employees, stronger air cargo security measures, additional canine patrols, more thorough identity verification, deploying more trained security officers in bomb appraisal, and improved screening by observation techniques.
Many travelers do not think they have to worry about security checks, however, if you are caught with a banned item, you could be fined and even prosecuted. The last thing you want to happen is to be prevented from boarding your flight, or even worse, end up on the no fly list.

We usually like to discover new places for our visit and we are bored with visiting some famous tourist attractions. However, you will find Dead Sea fascinating! You will find it really enjoyable and fantastic. Before you go, you should take note of the following tips.
You cannot really swim in the Dead Sea as it is not composed with water, so there is no need for you to bring your professional swimsuits. When you try to get into the Dead Sea, you will float on it just like sitting on a cushion.
Protect your feet by wearing water shoes, as there is rough salt at the bottom of the Dead Sea which is sharp enough to wound you. Remember to take a photo and put it on Facebook when you are wearing the shoes, you will find yourself very cute.
Dead Sea is not really a sea, it is a lake with 30% salt. It is the lowest place on Earth, as it is 417 feet below the sea level. You must try having spa there in the hotels as the elements in the ‘water’ of the Dead Sea are famous for skin care and they assist respiration.
Speaking of the mud, the aforementioned spa treatment actually wraps the visitors by the Dead Sea mud and a blanket on top of it. The treatment lasts for total of 20 minutes when one may find himself lonely in the room, others may feel like being made into a mud bun.
Putting salt in one’s wound do hurts. Cover any of your cuts securely, or better off avoid any kind of activity that may induce cuts prior to the trip to the Dead Sea.
Wear an old swimsuit as the water will discolor your clothing. Thoroughly sash whatever you have put on to get into the Sea, or else a layer of grim will permanently stick to your clothing.

Travel Steamers for A Great Beautiful You
Flat irons are used only in the past. Since people have become always on the go, good grooming also resulted to that shabby look. It is very uncomfortable to bring along the flat iron in your travels particularly when they charge excess baggage rates with ceiling high rates. That is why travel steamers have become more useful than a flat iron.
Celebrities and business executives who can’t afford to look slovenly in front of customers and fans. For people who are in the movie industry such as actors and stage performers and even sales executives, one unstraightened fold on a gown may ruin a business venture prospect.
A travel steamer has the same benefits that a regular flat iron can give. It ensures that all the kinks on your clothes are pressed and flattened out. The best thing about these travel steamers is that they come in compact and light weight designs that make them highly portable. Because of how important it is to have a travel steamer, you have to carefully choose the right features and functions of this device.
It is significant that you choose a travel steamer that has 15 minutes continuous steam per filling. It also comes with a nine foot power cord as part of its ergonomics design. This would make your ironing fast by allowing you to move your hand into crevices button holes, and other inaccessible areas which are more prone to creases. An automatic shut-down function will make it safe to use as it turns off automatically when the tank is empty. It should run on 600 watts, making the personal travel steamer ultra convenient for use. It should have a wide mouth water tank that uses tap water for refilling. It should function well without an ironing board, which would defeat the purpose of getting a portable travel steamer. There are those that only require you to hang the clothes and let a wand run up and down on the clothes to get rid of the kinks. It should also have a detail brush, a flat one, or an upholstery brush that can straighten the kinks in some hard to access areas.
Some travel steamers not only press your clothes flat; they also make sure that all odors are removed as well as bacteria. Not only that, as it removes bacteria clinging on these clothes as well.
So if in your next travel opportunity, you will be facing Bruce Willis, you won’t to worry about your looks. There’s a reliable travel steamer to help you out.
Traveling In Style
We spend a lot of time traveling. Whether we’re going home to see our parents, going on holiday, or simply going to school, we still spend a lot of time with people we don’t know, making small talk or just looking out the window.
Usual activities in trains or buses include sleeping or reading a book. However, the noise associated with their engines, or other peoples conversations makes these activities difficult. What is there left to do, when you still have a long way to go?
The SanDisk Sansa e250 is the perfect solution for your problem as an one option to help the hours pass by faster than just sitting around bored. With advanced features such as the option of viewing movies, or browsing around on your player looking for something to do, the player will make time fly by. Also, thanks to its FM tuner, the Sansa player allows you to listen to your favorite radio station as an one option to help the hours pass by faster than just sitting around bored.
You might find it weird or awkward to wear headphones in a public place, especially if not dressed casually, but why worry about what others think, and not do something you like? Listening to music is not just for teenagers or children. Headphones have also advanced far enough to permit better noise isolation, and so, nothing will disturb your listening experience. A good set of headphones also doesn’t allow the person next to you to hear what you are listening to.
Since traveling takes up so much of our time, might as well make an enjoyable experience out of it. You decide if the small price paid for this is worth it or not, but listening to music while traveling is much better than listening to those annoying kids in the next compartment. Why not make things easier for yourself? Give it a try, you won’t regret it!
Travel Lodge
What does one need when going on a trip? Travel tickets and a place to stay over night. If you haven’t made arrangements in advance, the search for a good travel lodge before the vacation period is exhausting. Tourism agents advertise extensively to sell their vacation packages, but the customer also needs to know what he or she expects for a holiday. Consider the next tips when in search of a quiet inexpensive travel lodge, and the following questions should help you start the search in the right way.
Are you planning a vacation on or off peak seasons? Are you tight to a fix date for the holiday? How much can you afford to spend on a travel lodge? How many people are going on the trip with you? Travel lodge is available with lots of hotels, motels and hostels offering accommodation with different levels of comfort, starting with regular amenities and finishing with five star services. From travel lodge to travel lodge it is normal for the rates to differ, not to mention that discounts can only be negotiated when you pay far in advance for accommodation. Thus, if you are so sure of the next-holiday plans, you can book rooms even a year in advance, since the hotel policy allows such flexible forms of reservation.
Internet portals ease up the search for a travel lodge immensely, as many of them include travel-related menu options. But for such technologies we have access to at present, it could prove impossible to find a decent cheap travel lodge in no time. So far we have talked about holiday makers who require|look for convenient accommodation, but there are very business people who have jobs that involve a lot of traveling, and they too enjoy the use of travel-related web sites. Some companies make their deals through rental contracts for a travel lodge in order to offer the commuting employees all the work conditions necessary.
The booking of such a travel lodge is made only after a preliminary discussion of the contract, particularly if the company pays on a constant basis to have the lodge available all the time. People in search of a travel lodge, who do not have the back covered by a corporation, should ponder over several rates agreeing to any further rental formality, and fortunately web sites do support comprehensive research making. As for the market trends, it is good to notice that there has been a modification in the travelers’ preferences for cottages, when traveling to Europe and Great Britain in particular.
