Vacations In Nottingham

Think of Nottingham and nearly all folk consider the legend of Robin Hood of Sherwood Forest and although folklore attracts increasing numbers of folk each and every year there is much more to Nottinghamshire and the city of Nottingham than meets the eye. Infact Nottingham is home to a reasonable collection of fascinating visitor attractions making it an excellent place for a vacation and the following article examines the city and a small selection of attractions in, and close to, Nottingham, as well as some hotels offering Nottingham bed and breakfast accommodation.

The city of Nottingham is in Nottinghamshire, in the East Midlands of  England. As well as Sherwood Forest and the legend of Sir Robin Hood, Nottingham is also known for the production of lace especially during the period of the Industrial Revolution when it gained a worldwide reputation for excellence.

The Lace Market, Nottingham

Once the heart of the world’s lace industry, at the time of the British Empire, the Lace Market in Nottingham is, today, a protected heritage area. It  features many superb examples of 19th Century industrial architecture. The Lace Market was not like a normal market area, as such, rather than having stalls and stall holders, the lace market featured a selection of warehouses and salesrooms selling and displaying lace. Following the decline in the lace industry the area became rundown however, today, the majority of the warehouses have been renovated and restored for other purposes for example photographic studios and similar. The Lace Market in Nottingham is a popular visitor attraction.

Shire Hall & Galleries of Justice

Near to the Lace Market you will discover the Galleries of Justice and Shire Hall. Shire Hall is a Georgian-built civic building featuring Neoclassical pilasters, columns and dome. The facade has, if you examine it carefully, a misspelled word Goal rather than Gaol. The Hall has 2 well preserved Victorian courtrooms and bath house, old cells, a women’s prison, a prisoner’s exercise yard and an Edwardian police station.

The City of Nottingham is a fantastic place to take a short city break. There is plenty to see and do within the city and an incredible number of visitor attractions not too far away. Places to visit include; Wollaton Hall, Hardwick Hall and Newstead Abbey.

As all all England bed and breakfast, Nottingham accommodation is usually top class at a reasonable price and many people choose to stay in Nottingham for only part of their break and then elsewhere for the remainder.

Discover Holiday Cottages in Anglesey, Enjoy an Island Cottage Break

As a potential visitor to this beautiful island off North Wales you have before you an excellent choice of holiday cottages in Anglesey, an important factor in making this your vacation destination. The island is well connected by road, rail and air, and combines these advantages with the secluded and quiet coastal locations of many of the available island cottages. These properties are perfect either for small groups of friends, for families or for a couple looking to get away for some quality time. Being on the edge of the Gulf Stream, Anglesey is an island with a mild, temperate climate and is lucky with long stretches of sunny days.

It doesn’t matter whether you want to come here in the winter, autumn or summer, Anglesey has a wide selection of self-catering cottages for you to choose from. You may, for example, choose to stay in the rural area near Llynnon Mill, the only working windmill in Wales. The country lanes around here are great for those who love cycling, and you will find some earmarked circular routes which go past historic sites of interest. Holiday cottages in Anglesey in many cases retain traditional features, and you can stay at a farmhouse cottage next to a working farm, giving you the chance to see life on a modern farm on the island today.

Of course you may want to have a restful break in a coastal cottage adjacent to the Anglesey Coastal Path, covering 125 miles of island coastline within a special Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Walking these paths gives you the chance to experience absolutely amazing mountian and sea views. Imagine leaving your cottage garden near Benllech shortly before breakfast and taking the path along the coast, enjoying the sun rising over the horizon. Benllech and Lligwy on the east coast have a good choice of coastal cottages, and these seaside villages also have some fine beaches nearby including Traeth Bychan, suitable for families who love sailing, fishing and for keen walkers.

You will find that a holiday cottage in Anglesey could be a modern designed, four bedroomed house which can sleep up to 10 people or a small traditional farmhouse cottage in a secluded copse, with pheasant, cattle and sheep nearby, which caters for just 2 to 3 guests, and privacy enhanced by hedgerows and a secluded garden with fine apple orchards. Guests will find most cottages offer central heating, washing facilities and a shower, and young children are catered for with extra beds and cots. An access statement for people with disabilities is often provided and these self-catering cottages have a hairdryer, a TV and satellite arrangement.

Imagine your island cottage near to the sea and you can strole along a wide sandy beach, the sea glistening and sun setting ahead of you. You could achieve this by getting a cottage on the south west strech of Anglesey coast. Running from the magical Llanddwyn beach near Newborough in the south to Aberffraw and its quiet sand dunes and marram grass stretching for miles to the sea and on to the “mecca” for surfers at Rhosneigr in the south west, there is an excellent range of coastal cottages to pick from.

Should you venture further west on Anglesey you will find secluded coastal properties on Holy Island near Porth Dafarch, Rhoscolyn and Trearddur Bay, and there are some award winning sandy beaches nearby, just look for the Blue Flag. Here also visitors can reach the coastal path and walk to the enigmatic South Stack lighthouse and see the seabirds and marine life off the cliffs. While on the eastern coast you can pick up some coastal cottages in very sheltered ltered locations such as near Penmon and Llangoed, and close by are the historic Penmon Priory, Dovecote and Seiriol’s Well. South of here you can visit Beaumaris Castle, the famous UN World Heritage site on the Menai Strait and this character seaside town offers some great views of the mainland mountains.

Whether you are looking for a weekend break or perhaps a week’s vacation, there is a wide choice of island holiday cottages to suite the tastes of virtually every potential visitor. Some may want to kayak, swim or surf while others may want to enjoy a more sedate pace, walking the coastal path and visiting local art galleries and monuments. Sheffield Vacations and Tourist Attractions Worth Visiting

This year Vacation in the United Kingdom are all the rage. The many reasons are too many to list but most agree that the main factor is the current depression and the increasing requirement to minimize costs, especially in relation to family vacations. A further influential fact is the low value of the Pound Sterling which causes foreign travel for the English to be expensive but, alternatively, travel into the United Kingdom is cheap. England has many first class vacation destinations including a fine selection of seaside resorts, however increasing numbers of folk are deciding to take their vacations in cities instead. Popular cities include; London, Nottingham and Manchester but there are a great many other places in Britain in which to have a weekend city break for example Sheffield. With rooms as cheap as £20 a night, bed and breakfast accommodation in Sheffield makes for reasonablu priced city vacation destination.

Places To Visit In Sheffield

For a city with an industrial past primarily in the cutlery and steel industry, Sheffield has a wide variety of galleries. The most popular are the Graves Art Gallery, Site Gallery and Millennium Galleries. The Millennium Galleries are free to enter and have visiting exhibitions (entry is for a few pounds. The Ruskin Gallery is founded upon a collection donated by John Ruskin for the improvement of the working class of Sheffield and includes sketches, paintings, watercolors, casts, minerals and a small collection of medieval illuminated manuscripts.

You will discover that Sheffield is home to a small selection of museums but the City Museum is found on the outskirts of the center of the city as is the Kelham Island Museum which houses all kinds of things connected with the industrial past of the city and old machinery. Even though Sheffield was heavily bombed during WWII several fine examples of Victorian and older architecture still survive and the center of the city is amazingly easy to walk around. Try to make time to visit the city’s Cathedral of St Peter and St Paul which can be dated back to the 15th century.

Staying In Sheffield

Because the city has a University the cafes, clubs and bars can become incredibly busy at the weekends, during which time students make the very most their spare time. While lots of folk enjoy the lively night scene others would rather a more sedate environment in which to stay, these people should make a reservation in a hotel away from the center of the city.

If a Sheffield weekend city break is not your kind of thing why not ponder upon making a reservation in a London guest house, the capital of England? Otherwise why not discuss booking a weekend in a hotel in Liverpool,  which was Europe’s Capital of Culture 2008 and benefits from a fantastic selection of world class visitor attractions.

England has much to offer the tourist and the countless highly engaging, and incredibly diverse, cities frequently offer more than the many seaside resorts.

Weekend City Breaks in Plymouth and Visitor Attractions to Visit

Vacations in the UK seem to be increasingly popular at the moment, most likely due to the economic downturn and the low value of the pound Sterling. England has a large number of top tourist destinations including London (the capital of England) and other fascinating cities plus a fine selection of seaside resorts such as; Blackpool, Southport, Skegness and Bognor Regis. One town commonly overlooked is Plymouth in the south of England.

At first glance Plymouth appears a little plain and modern, but searching a little bit deeper and you will soon discover that the city of Plymouth has a fascinating history and a deep association with the sea. As long ago as the fifteen hundreds Plymouth has been an important port. In fifteen eighty eight Sir Francis Drake set sail from the port at Plymouth to successfully defend England by defeating the Spanish Armada. A further historic moment occurred in 1620 when the port served as the last embarkation point for the Pilgrim Fathers on their journey to North America.

It is possible to enjoy cheap short breaks in Plymouth by booking rooms in Plymouth bed and breakfast rather than staying in a plush hotel. A simple online search will show that rooms are available from as little as £29 a night and some guest houses offer reasonably priced dinners too, often equivalent to, or cheaper than local restaurants.

Things To See And Do In Plymouth

There are many interesting places to visit in Plymouth. Popular visitor attractions include; Smeaton’s Tower and Plymouth Dome, the Mayflower Steps, Sutton Harbour and the Royal Citadel. A boat cruise around the naval base is an interesting way to spend some time and if you discover that you have more time to spare why not take a day out to other places outside Plymouth, for example; Mount Edgcumbe, Buckland Abbey or Saltram House.

Saltram House is a lovely Tudor Mansion which is found two miles from the town, Mount Edgcumbe is a further Tudor house with landscaped gardens, parklands and coastal paths, and Buckland Abbey, approximately 6 miles away from Plymouth, is a Cistercian abbey which was at one time by Francis Drake and was later converted into a family home.

If you are currently thinking about taking a trip to the city of Plymouth it is immensely important that you reserve your  accommodation at your first opportunity because, unfortunately Plymouth hotel and guest house accommodation tend to be amazingly busy and are commonly fully booked well in advance. If you are travelling in a group you may find that apartments in Plymouth prove to be reasonable alternative to bed and breakfast in Plymouth. If you are visiting England from abroad then you should consider booking a room for a few days in hotels in London to take in the sights of the English capital also.
